Freeman, a resident of Saybrook, served in 1775 and again from 1777 to 1782. Circular punch cancellation. Fold split contemporaneously repaired with stitching.

THOMAS HAZARD Spy for Sir Henry Clinton during the American Revolution. Hazard is said to have procured intelligence for the British with great risk. Autograph Document Signed twice, “Thos Hazard.” One page. 4 5/8” x 7 ½”. New Haven. May 24, 1776. Hazard acknowledges receipt of ₤50.0.10 and ₤166 on two separate occasions from James Rogers. On the same page and verso are receipts given Rogers from other individuals. A scarce autograph of this British Spy. Very Fine.

Thomas Penn (1702 – 1775). Son of William Penn, along with his brothers he inherited the position of Proprietor of the Colony of Pennsylvania. Cut Signature. 3 ¾” x 1 3/8” mounted to a larger card measuring 5” x 2 ¾” overall. Nice bold signature “Tho. Penn”. Nice, intact wax seal of the Penn family motto at the right of Penn’s signature. Pickering" to "John Pickering": "You will deem me a negligent trustee: but knowing it to be proper to make up Salary accounts at the close of a quarter, I waited accordingly. I have now the pleasure to inclose your Salary from Feby. 11th to June 30th inclusively, amounting to Three hundred and eighty six dollars & eleven cents in one post note...". The letter is in fine condition with dark ink.

To President Taylor Just Months Before His Death

 TAYLOR, ZACHARY
[Zachary Taylor] 1850. Pennsylvania. 4pp. ALS from a Dr. A. D. Chaloner of Philadelphia written just months prior to Taylor’s death. “Philad. City Feb 15, 1850 Dear Sir, Soon another Anniversary of Buena Vista will be here, and as on that day, your voice encouraged your countrymen to daring deeds-may not those who in the political campaign sustained you be remembered? One who first battled in the whirl of politics to place you at our Country’s helm, as now his efforts may even now be rewarded. Respectfully, A.D. Chaloner, MD Respectfully, Yr. Obt Sert, Genl Z. Taylor Prest. U States Washington, DC.” A docketed notation on the verso states; “Philadelphia Feb 15, 1850 A.D. Chaloner Reminds the P. of himself.” Our research has found that a Doctor A.D. Chaloner, MD in Phil. wrote an article in 1849 in the Philadelphia Ledger on “TREATMENT OF CHOLERA” which is what is now thought to be a possible cause of Taylor’s death. Fold Marks. Fine.

Union General William Wells Won The Congressional Medal Of Honor For Service At The Battle Of Gettysburg

WILLIAM WELLS (1837-1892) Union brevetted brigadier and major general and later a full-rank brigadier general of volunteers during the Civil War. Wells served at, among others. the battles of Gettysburg, Winchester, Cedar Creek, Petersburg, and the Appomattox campaign. DS 8 1/2” x 2 3/4” Burlington, Vermont. October 7, 1874. Partially Printed Bank Check payable to H.H. Adams in the amount of $40.80. Signed as Maker by Wells as Collector for Vermont. Pen cancellation slightly affects the first letter of Wells’ signature.
