Two pages, 7” x 8 3/4”. Clinton, N.Y. June 29, 1932. Root writes to Mrs. Alton B. Parker, wife of the American lawyer and 1904 U.S. presidential candidate, in part: “ … it is a pleasure for me to hear from you and to have revived my memories of your husband, for whom during many years in had real affection. My Chairmanship of the Carnegie Corporation, however, has become merely nominal. The infirmities of age have made it impossible for me to continue an active part in the affairs of the Institution … I shall, however, take pleasure in brining to the attention of the Corporation the project of the Institute of American Genealogy to publish the passenger lists of the ships coming to American between the settlement of Jamestown and the Revolution. I had a lot of forbearers coming in various ships between 1930 and 1640 and I know how fragmentary and scattered is the information available about immigration at that period …”
