ERRETT LOBBAN "E.L." CORD (1894-1974). Cord was an automobile manufacturer and financier who assembled the legendary Auburn-Cord-Duesenberg empire. During the 1930s, the company produced some of the finest American automobiles ever. The company's most famous model, the boat-tail speedster of 1935, was guaranteed to do better than 100 mph. By 1937, all production had ceased, and the A-C-D combination was dissolved.
